The Proper Pour
The innovation of craft brewers lately has resulted in a dizzying array of beer styles found on tap that require a surprising level of understanding of draft systems and proper pouring techniques. The simple days of hooking up an inexpensive keg of watery beer and hoping for the best will soon be a thing of the past as more and more bars/restaurants/stores serve craft beer on tap that requires special attention. To learn more about draft systems, the Brewers Association has released a guide called the Draught Beer Quality Manual to make sure that you appreciate beer in its best condition.
In addition to this guide, the Cicerone Certification Program “offers that independent assessment and certification so that industry professionals—as well as consumers—can be sure of the knowledge and skills possessed by current and prospective beer servers.” Want to make it your mission to never let a person drink beer served through dirty tap lines or beer served at the wrong carbonation level? Check out Cicerone and
